SMS (text messages)

Text messages with your clients, through a texting number we set up for you.

Getting a texting number

  1. Go to Settings → Channels → Text messages (SMS) and choose Get my texting number.

  2. If a number is free, it’s yours straight away

The card says “Your texting number is ready” and shows the number.

  3. If none is free right now, we set one up within 1 business day

Your request is recorded and the card shows “Number requested on …” until the number is connected.

Clients text this number, and it sends reminders and missed-call replies. Texting comes with the Booking and Front Desk plans.

US businesses: 10DLC registration

US carriers require business texting to be registered (called “A2P 10DLC”). It usually takes a few days, sometimes a few weeks. Until it is approved, texts may be blocked or filtered.

Canadian businesses

Registration isn’t needed for Canadian numbers, but texts to US phones may be filtered by US carriers.

How texting works

  • There are no buttons on SMS — choices are sent as a numbered list, and clients reply with the number or the time.
  • Messages can be up to 1,600 characters.
  • Unlike WhatsApp and Instagram, a business can start an SMS conversation — but only with a client who has agreed to get texts, or who texted you in the last 24 hours. See Consent.

STOP, START and other keywords

Client textsWhat happens
STOP, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, END, QUIT, OPTOUT, “opt out”, BAJA, ALTO, PARARNo more messages on that channel. On WhatsApp and Instagram the assistant can still answer if they write again; on SMS nothing is sent until they text START.
START, UNSTOP, “yes start”, ALTA, SUBSCRIBEService messages (like reminders) can be sent again. Marketing stays off.
CANCELStops marketing messages (comebacks) only. The assistant still answers — they may just want to cancel an appointment.

After a STOP they get one confirmation: “You’re unsubscribed from [your business] texts and won’t get more automated messages. Reply START to opt back in.” If they text you again without START, the assistant stays quiet (nothing may be texted to them) and the conversation is flagged for your team with the reason, so you can call them or ask them to text START.

Comeback texts always end with “Reply STOP to opt out.”

Note

A STOP applies to the phone number, not just one client record — everyone who shares that number (a family phone, for example) stops getting messages on that channel.
