Deposits
Ask for money up front to protect your time. Deposits are paid by card into your own Stripe account.
Note
Deposits come with the Booking and Front Desk plans. Tornaly takes no cut: the money goes straight to you.
Before you start
Connect Stripe in Settings → Payments & deposits (only the Owner can connect). Until Stripe is connected and ready to take payments, bookings are made without a deposit. See How Stripe Connect works here.
Three ways to ask for a deposit
| Where | How |
|---|---|
| On a service | Settings → Services & prices → Deposit (a fixed amount). |
| As an exception | Settings → Booking rules → Add exception: a fixed amount or % of the price, for one service, team member or client. |
| After no-shows | Clients with 2 no-shows (by default) pay $10 to book. Or tick Always ask for a deposit on one client. |
A percentage deposit on a service with no price comes to zero, so no deposit is asked.
What the client experiences
They pick a time
The assistant holds it.
They get a payment link
The assistant explains the time is reserved and sends a secure Stripe payment page.
They pay within 30 minutes
The booking is confirmed and they get “Deposit received — you’re booked ✓”.
Or they don’t
The hold ends and the time opens up again.
The full flow — including late payments and refunds — is in Deposits flow.
Your team and deposits
- The booking shows Awaiting deposit until it’s paid.
- On the calendar, Copy payment link lets you send the link yourself.
- Approving a request that needs a deposit sends the client the payment link.
Note
The rest of the price is paid at the shop, as usual. There is no checkout for the remaining balance in the app.
